GST annual return using form GSTR-9 has been enabled for filing for FY 2024-25 on the GST portal

The GST portal has been updated to enable online filing of Goods and Services Tax (GST) annual return using form GSTR-9. Moreover, the reconciliation statement using the GSTR-9C form has also been enabled for filing. Its noteworthy that the deadline for filing GSTR-9 annual return is December 31, 2025 for FY 2024-25 and this means there can be less time this year for filing the annual return.

Chartered Accountant Bimal Jain, founder, A2Z Taxcorp LLP said: “Taxpayers can access the filing options, including “PREPARE-ONLINE” and “PREPARE OFFLINE” for GSTR-9, and “INITIATE-FILING” and “PREPARE OFFLINE” for GSTR-9C, directly on the GST portal.”

Chartered Accountant Deep Koradia said: "GSTR-9 and 9C for Annual Return has been enabled on portal now on October 12, 2025. It is pertinent to note that the official time available to taxpayers is of 9 months, i.e. from April 2025 to December 2025, but due to the late release of the annual return and reconciliation statement forms, the actual time available is less than 3 months."

GSTR 9 Filing is compulsory if your turnover exceeds Rs Two crore and GSTR 9C Filing is mandatory if your turnover exceeds Rs Five crore. GSTR 9 and GSTR 9C Filing is a tedious task as whole Financial Year’s data is required to be compiled so its availability will enable Filiers to start filling. GSTR 9C is a reconciliation statement which can be filed only after Filing GSTR 9 which is Annual Returns. “
